Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, well-connected island with strong opportunities in engineering, advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defence, technology, logistics, finance and healthcare. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, punctual and relatively formal in professional settings, with excellent public transport, reliable services, diverse food and a generally safe environment. Housing and daily expenses can be high, particularly in central areas, so many newcomers live near MRT lines in suburban districts. Foreign professionals usually need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass or S Pass, subject to salary, qualifications and Ministry of Manpower requirements. Relocating employees should arrange accommodation, insurance, banking and tax registration, and check dependant eligibility. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain, so lightweight clothing and good air conditioning are useful.
