Destination Guide

Surabaya is on Java, Indonesia’s most populous island and the country’s main commercial and cultural centers. Job opportunities are strong in hotels, restaurants, tourism, manufacturing, logistics, retail and technology, particularly in Surabaya and nearby Sidoarjo. Java offers a busy urban lifestyle, affordable local food, shopping malls and good transport links, while beaches, mountains and historic towns are accessible for weekend trips. Indonesian culture values politeness, community, religious diversity and respect for local customs. Employees should expect a tropical climate, traffic and a mix of traditional and modern living. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored work authorization, including the appropriate work permit and residence visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Before relocating, confirm sponsorship, salary, accommodation, insurance and contract terms. Learning basic Indonesian and arranging registered accommodation will make settling in easier.
