Destination Guide

Surabaya is on Java, Indonesia's most developed and densely populated island, with strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, manufacturing, technology, education, and business services. Java offers excellent transport links, shopping, healthcare, and affordable urban living, while nearby destinations such as Bali, Lombok, and the Bromo region provide easy leisure options. Indonesian culture values hospitality, respect, modesty, family, and community; English is useful in international hotels, while basic Bahasa Indonesia helps with daily life. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in Singapore or major Western cities, though central housing and imported goods can be expensive. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship, an approved work permit, and a limited-stay work visa or KITAS before starting work. Confirm current immigration rules, benefits, accommodation, and relocation support directly with Marriott.
