Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hospitality, engineering, tourism, retail, technology and healthcare. Desaru is on Malaysia’s southeastern coast in Johor, rather than on an island, with beaches, resorts and a relaxed coastal lifestyle. Nearby Johor Bahru provides larger shopping, dining and employment options, while Singapore is accessible by road but has different immigration rules. Malaysian culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English commonly used in hotels and business. Living costs outside Kuala Lumpur are generally moderate, though transport may be useful in resort areas. Malaysia’s islands, including Langkawi, Tioman, Redang and Penang, offer diving, beaches and weekend travel. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored employment pass, approved before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, salary and position. Candidates should confirm accommodation, transport, medical coverage, taxes and pass arrangements directly with Marriott before relocating.
