Destination Guide

Jakarta is on Java, Indonesia’s most developed and populous island, offering strong opportunities in luxury hotels, restaurants, tourism, events, finance and corporate services. The city is fast-paced, diverse and multicultural, with excellent dining, shopping and entertainment, although traffic and humid weather are part of daily life. Java provides easy access to Bandung, Yogyakarta and Bali by air or rail, while Indonesia’s other islands offer beaches, diving and a slower lifestyle. Foreign employees normally need employer sponsorship and an appropriate work permit and limited-stay visa; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Employers usually coordinate immigration paperwork, but requirements and fees should be confirmed with HR and Indonesian authorities. Relocating candidates should budget for housing, transport, insurance and document legalization, and verify whether accommodation or flights are included.
