Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in banking, securities, technology, manufacturing, logistics, hospitality, and education, especially in Tokyo, Osaka, and other major cities. Financial-services professionals may find roles in operations, compliance, risk, investment banking, fintech, and client support. Japanese workplace culture generally values punctuality, preparation, hierarchy, teamwork, and careful attention to detail, although international firms often use more global working practices. Daily life is safe, clean, and efficient, with excellent public transportation, healthcare, and diverse food options. Tokyo is highly convenient but expensive, while regional cities can provide a lower cost of living and a slower pace. Foreign workers usually need an employer-sponsored work visa, such as the Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services status; highly skilled professionals may qualify for preferential treatment. Relocation planning should include housing deposits, residence registration, health insurance, taxes, banking, and learning practical Japanese. Company assistance with visa applications and relocation is worth confirming before accepting an offer.
