Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in finance, technology, manufacturing, consulting, healthcare, education, and tourism, with Tokyo serving as the main hub for international banking and corporate careers. Work culture values punctuality, preparation, teamwork, respect for hierarchy, and long-term professional relationships, although many employers are gradually adopting more flexible practices. Tokyo provides excellent public transport, healthcare, safety, restaurants, and entertainment, but housing and daily expenses can be high. Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sapporo offer different lifestyles and often lower costs. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored work visa, commonly the Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services status, or a Highly Skilled Professional visa. Relocation usually involves securing sponsorship, arranging housing, registering residency, obtaining health insurance, and opening a bank account. Japanese language skills are helpful, particularly outside multinational workplaces.
