Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact international business hub on China’s southern coast, comprising Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. Strong employment opportunities exist in investment banking, asset management, fintech, insurance, professional services, technology, logistics, and regional headquarters operations. Workplace culture is fast-paced, hierarchical in some organizations, and highly international; English is widely used in business, while Cantonese and Mandarin improve career prospects. The lifestyle combines dense urban districts, excellent public transport, efficient services, beaches, hiking trails, and a major food and cultural scene. Housing is expensive, especially near Central and popular expatriate areas, although commuting from Kowloon or the New Territories can reduce costs. Most foreign professionals need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, generally under the General Employment Policy. Applicants should secure an offer, demonstrate suitable qualifications and experience, and arrange housing, banking, insurance, and tax registration before relocating.
