Destination Guide

Indonesia offers technology and business opportunities mainly in Java, especially Jakarta, Bandung, and Yogyakarta, with growing digital, tourism, and remote-work communities in Bali. Java has the strongest corporate infrastructure and public transport, while Bali offers a more relaxed lifestyle but higher costs in popular areas. Sumatra, Sulawesi, and other islands provide opportunities in logistics, energy, tourism, agriculture, and regional services. Indonesian culture generally values community, politeness, religious diversity, and respectful communication; local customs vary by island. Living costs range widely, with Jakarta and central Bali usually the most expensive. Foreign professionals normally need an employer-sponsored work visa and work authorization; working on a tourist visa is not permitted. Relocating typically involves employment sponsorship, documentation, accommodation planning, health insurance, and tax registration. Learning basic Indonesian is highly useful, even in international workplaces.
