Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in software engineering, UI and UX design, data, finance, tourism, education, healthcare, and international business. Tokyo has the largest job market, while Osaka, Yokohama, Fukuoka, Nagoya, and Sapporo also attract technology and corporate employers. Japanese workplaces value punctuality, preparation, teamwork, and respectful communication, although many global companies use English. Life is generally safe and convenient, with excellent public transport, reliable services, and varied food and entertainment. Living costs are highest in Tokyo; housing, commuting, and language requirements should be considered when relocating. Foreign professionals normally need an employer-sponsored work visa, commonly under an Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services status, and must meet education or experience requirements. Employers often assist with visa applications and relocation, but applicants should confirm sponsorship, health insurance, taxes, and residency procedures before moving. Japan’s four main islands offer very different lifestyles, from urban Tokyo to quieter regional communities.
