Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in finance, technology, manufacturing, consulting, tourism, education, and international business, particularly in Tokyo, Osaka, and Nagoya. Workplace culture values punctuality, preparation, respect, teamwork, and thoughtful communication; hierarchy and business etiquette remain important, although global firms are often more international. Lifestyle ranges from highly connected urban living to quieter coastal and rural communities, with excellent public transport, safety, healthcare, and diverse food. English-only roles exist, but Japanese ability significantly improves career prospects. Foreign workers normally need an appropriate work visa, usually supported by the employer; internships require the correct status and should be confirmed with the sponsor and Japanese authorities. Relocation costs, housing deposits, language support, taxation, and health insurance should be researched before moving. Tokyo is convenient but expensive, while regional cities may offer lower living costs.
