Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in software engineering, data, finance, consulting, manufacturing, healthcare, education, and tourism, particularly in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. The culture values punctuality, respect, teamwork, attention to detail, and reliable service. Daily life is generally safe and convenient, with excellent public transport, efficient infrastructure, and varied food and entertainment. Tokyo is international but expensive; regional cities often provide more space and lower living costs. Professional workplaces may be formal, and Japanese language ability can significantly improve career and social opportunities, although many multinational firms use English. Most foreign professionals need an employer-sponsored work visa, commonly the Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services status; highly skilled professionals may qualify for preferential treatment. Before relocating, arrange a Certificate of Eligibility, housing, health insurance, tax registration, and a residence card. Japan experiences four distinct seasons and occasional earthquakes and typhoons, so preparation and local registration are important.
