Destination Guide

Japan offers opportunities in banking, technology, manufacturing, consulting, education, tourism, healthcare, and international business, especially in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. Workplace culture generally values punctuality, preparation, teamwork, respect for hierarchy, and careful communication, although many international companies use more flexible practices. Lifestyle ranges from energetic metropolitan living to quieter coastal, rural, and island communities. Public transport is excellent, but housing and commuting in Tokyo can be expensive. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate work visa, commonly the Engineer/Specialist in Humanities/International Services visa for professional roles; the employer usually supports the Certificate of Eligibility process. A fixed-term job may require careful checking of visa eligibility and contract renewal terms. Relocation planning should include accommodation, health insurance, taxes, banking, language support, and registration with the local municipality.
