Destination Guide

Japan offers strong opportunities in e-commerce, technology, finance, logistics, tourism, manufacturing, healthcare, and education. Tokyo, on Honshu, is the main employment center, while Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Sapporo, and regional cities also have growing industries. Japanese culture values punctuality, politeness, teamwork, and attention to detail; workplaces may be hierarchical, although international companies are often more flexible. Cities provide excellent public transport, safety, convenience stores, restaurants, and healthcare, but housing and commuting costs can be high in Tokyo. Foreign workers generally need a work visa sponsored by an employer, with the appropriate status depending on the role and qualifications. Relocation usually involves arranging housing, residence registration, health insurance, a bank account, and possibly Japanese language support. Japan’s main islands are Honshu, Hokkaido, Kyushu, Shikoku, and Okinawa.
