Destination Guide

Indonesia is an archipelago, and this position is in Jakarta on Java, the country’s commercial and administrative center. Hospitality, tourism, restaurants, aviation, retail, technology and business services provide many employment opportunities, especially in Jakarta, Bali, Batam and other major destinations. Indonesian culture values warmth, respect for elders, community and religious diversity; English is useful in international hotels. Jakarta offers extensive dining, shopping and entertainment, but traffic, humidity, flooding and a busy pace are common. Living costs vary widely, with central areas being more expensive. Foreign workers generally need an employer-sponsored work permit and appropriate stay visa before working; tourist visas do not authorize employment. Employers typically guide the immigration process. Research contracts, accommodation, insurance, taxes and local registration before relocating. Java has strong transport links, while Bali and other islands offer a more relaxed lifestyle.
