Destination Guide

Australia offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, aged care, construction, healthcare, technology and agriculture, although competition can be higher in major cities. Workplaces are generally informal but professional, with emphasis on punctuality, fairness, workplace safety and clear communication. Lifestyle varies from busy urban living in Sydney and Melbourne to relaxed coastal or regional communities. Australia has beaches, national parks, diverse food, sport and outdoor activities, but living costs—especially rent—can be high. Most overseas workers need a visa with work rights, such as a Working Holiday visa, employer-sponsored visa or skilled visa; eligibility depends on nationality, occupation, age and qualifications. Before relocating, arrange a tax file number, Australian bank account, suitable health insurance and accommodation. Check official Department of Home Affairs requirements and confirm employment conditions under the applicable hospitality award.
