Destination Guide

The United Arab Emirates is a modern Gulf country rather than a single island, with Dubai offering particularly strong opportunities in hotels, tourism, retail, aviation, events and luxury services. The culture combines Islamic traditions with a highly international population; modest dress in public areas, respect for local customs and awareness of religious practices are important. Dubai has warm weather, beaches, shopping, restaurants and extensive leisure facilities, though summers are extremely hot. Most expatriates relocate through an employer-sponsored residence and work visa. Employers commonly arrange medical testing, Emirates ID processing and, in some cases, accommodation or a housing allowance. Before accepting an offer, confirm salary, service charges, working hours, accommodation, transport, leave, medical cover and flight benefits. A valid passport, authenticated documents and a clear employment contract are normally required.
