Destination Guide

Phuket is Thailand’s largest island and a major destination for hospitality, tourism and marine-based employment. Opportunities are common in hotels, restaurants, villas, spas, tour companies, retail, transportation and event services, especially around Patong, Kata, Karon, Bang Tao and Phuket Town. Thai culture values politeness, respect, calm communication and appropriate dress, while Buddhist customs and local festivals are important parts of daily life. Lifestyle ranges from busy nightlife and international dining to quiet beaches, markets, temples and outdoor activities. Living costs vary; accommodation near resort areas can be expensive, so staff housing or shared rentals are useful. Foreign nationals generally need a job offer, a Non-Immigrant B visa and a Thai work permit arranged with the employer before working legally. A passport, police clearance, medical checks and certified documents may be required. Phuket has an international airport, reliable services and strong expatriate communities, but newcomers should plan for tropical weather, traffic and seasonal tourism fluctuations.
