Destination Guide

Malaysia offers hospitality, tourism, food and beverage, retail, transport and service-sector opportunities, especially around Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and major resort destinations. Its culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous traditions, with Islam as the official religion and English commonly used in hotels and business. Lifestyle costs are generally moderate, although Kuala Lumpur and island resorts can be more expensive. Malaysia’s islands provide beaches, diving, nature and relaxed coastal living, while mainland cities offer stronger career networks and public transport. Foreign employees normally need an employment pass or other work authorisation arranged by the sponsoring employer before starting work; requirements depend on nationality, salary and role. Candidates should confirm accommodation, medical coverage, transport, service charge and visa support in the employment contract. Local food, tropical weather and respectful, modest behaviour are important parts of settling in.
