Destination Guide

Australia is a large island nation with opportunities in hospitality, tourism, healthcare, construction, education, technology and agriculture. Melbourne is a multicultural city known for its cafés, arts, sport, live music and varied dining scene. The lifestyle is generally relaxed but can be expensive, particularly for rent and transport in central areas. Workers should budget carefully and check wages, tax, superannuation and penalty rates before accepting a role. Foreign applicants normally need a suitable visa, such as a Working Holiday visa, employer-sponsored visa or another work-authorised permit; requirements depend on nationality, age, skills and occupation. Relocating usually involves arranging accommodation, a tax file number, bank account, phone service and health insurance. Public transport is extensive, and Melbourne's climate is changeable, so practical clothing is useful.
