The United Arab Emirates is not an island, but it offers a highly international lifestyle across cities such as Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Hospitality, tourism, restaurants, aviation, retail and construction provide many job opportunities, particularly for skilled and experienced workers. The culture blends Emirati traditions with communities from around the world; modest dress, respect for local customs and awareness of Islamic holidays are important. Lifestyle options include beaches, shopping, desert activities, museums and modern entertainment, although summers are extremely hot. Employers commonly sponsor work visas, residence permits and medical checks for overseas recruits, but employees should confirm the package in writing. Relocation costs, accommodation, meals, transport and insurance vary by employer. A valid passport, authenticated qualifications where required and a clean legal record may be necessary. Abu Dhabi is generally safe, well connected and family friendly, though living costs can be high without employer-provided housing.
