Destination Guide

Malaysia is not one island but a country divided between Peninsular Malaysia and East Malaysia on Borneo, with popular islands such as Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang and Perhentian. Hospitality opportunities are strongest in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu and resort areas, particularly in hotels, restaurants, events, tourism and retail. The culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English widely used in business and tourism. Lifestyle ranges from busy urban living to relaxed beach or island communities, with generally affordable food and transport. Foreign employees normally require an employment pass sponsored by the hiring company; approval depends on qualifications, salary and immigration rules. Relocating staff should arrange an employment contract, passport validity, medical checks, accommodation and suitable health insurance before arrival.
