Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities across luxury hotels, beach resorts, restaurants, spas and tourism businesses, especially in Langkawi, Penang, Kota Kinabalu, Perhentian and Redang. Hospitality work can provide a relaxed coastal lifestyle, warm weather, affordable local food and easy access to beaches, diving and island activities, although remote resorts may have fewer shopping and entertainment options. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences; respectful dress, punctuality and sensitivity to religious customs are important. Foreign employees generally need an employment pass or other work authorisation arranged by the employer before starting work. Requirements vary by nationality, salary and position, and approval can take time. Relocating staff should confirm accommodation, transport, medical cover, meals, flights and contract benefits. Major cities offer better transport and services, while island roles often provide a closer-knit resort community.
