Destination Guide

Malaysia offers attractive hospitality opportunities in island and coastal destinations such as Penang, Langkawi, Tioman, Redang and parts of Sabah. Jobs are available in hotels and resorts across revenue management, front office, food and beverage, housekeeping, sales, spa and marine activities. Malaysian culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous traditions, with English widely used in tourism workplaces. Island living is generally relaxed, warm and community-oriented, although accommodation, transport and imported goods can cost more in resort areas. Penang provides stronger urban amenities and dining, while Langkawi offers a quieter resort lifestyle. Foreign employees normally require employer sponsorship and an approved Employment Pass before starting work; requirements vary by nationality and position. Candidates should confirm visa arrangements, medical checks, accommodation, taxes and relocation support with Shangri-La. Malaysia’s tropical climate brings year-round heat and seasonal monsoon conditions, so travel and housing plans should account for weather.
