Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, aviation, retail, finance, technology and healthcare. The culture is multicultural, with Chinese, Malay, Indian and international influences reflected in its food, festivals and languages. Life is convenient and generally safe, with excellent public transport, modern healthcare and many shopping, dining and entertainment options. Housing can be expensive, particularly in central areas, so newcomers often compare shared rooms, serviced apartments and locations near MRT stations. Foreign employees normally need employer-sponsored permission to work, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, depending on salary, qualifications and eligibility. Employers usually guide successful candidates through the application process. New arrivals should budget for rent, transport, food, insurance and deposits, and confirm that the employer provides a valid contract and clear relocation support.
