Destination Guide

Australia offers strong opportunities in finance, technology, healthcare, engineering, education, mining and professional services, with Sydney and Melbourne being the main financial centres. The culture is generally informal, direct and multicultural, with emphasis on work-life balance, outdoor activities and practical communication. Lifestyle choices range from major-city living to coastal towns and regional communities, although housing and transport can be expensive in Sydney and Melbourne. Skilled professionals may qualify for employer-sponsored visas, including the Temporary Skill Shortage visa, or permanent skilled migration pathways, depending on occupation, qualifications, experience and points. Employer sponsorship is common for specialist finance roles, but eligibility and salary thresholds change regularly. New arrivals should arrange a tax file number, bank account, health insurance and suitable accommodation. Australia’s large distances, varied climates and strong public services make advance planning for relocation, travel and cost of living particularly important.
