Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in investment banking, equity sales and trading, asset management, fintech, insurance, technology, logistics and professional services. The city combines Chinese and international influences, with Cantonese and English widely used in business; Mandarin is also valuable. Life is fast-paced and convenient, supported by excellent public transport, diverse restaurants, shopping, hiking trails and beaches. Housing is expensive, particularly in central districts, so many professionals consider areas such as Kowloon, the New Territories or outlying islands. Overseas hires generally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, usually through the General Employment Policy, with approval based on qualifications, a confirmed job and market-level compensation. Dependants may normally accompany approved visa holders and can often work. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, healthcare coverage, banking, tax registration and an identity card soon after arrival. Hong Kong’s compact size makes it easy to explore both urban neighborhoods and quieter coastal areas.
