Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact international financial centre built around Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with easy access to beaches, hiking trails and outlying islands. Job opportunities are strongest in banking, wealth management, insurance, fintech, accounting, law, technology and professional services. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and Mandarin is increasingly useful. The lifestyle is fast-paced and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse restaurants, shopping and vibrant cultural activities, although housing can be expensive and space is limited. Foreign professionals generally need an employment visa sponsored by a Hong Kong employer; skilled applicants may also qualify through talent or investment schemes. Employers often assist with visa applications, relocation and sometimes temporary accommodation. New arrivals should arrange housing, banking, healthcare coverage and tax advice before moving. Hong Kong's extensive transport network makes commuting practical even when living outside the city centre.
