Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact international city made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories, and surrounding islands. It offers strong opportunities in banking, asset management, fintech, insurance, technology, logistics, professional services, and hospitality. The culture blends Cantonese and wider Chinese traditions with international influences; workplaces are generally fast-paced and multilingual, with English widely used in finance. Lifestyle options range from excellent restaurants and shopping to beaches, hiking trails, cultural districts, and efficient public transport. Housing can be expensive, especially near Central, although areas such as Kowloon, the New Territories, and outlying islands may offer better value. Foreign professionals usually need an employment visa sponsored by an eligible employer, commonly under the General Employment Policy, while dependants may qualify for accompanying visas. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, banking, healthcare coverage, and an Octopus travel card.
