Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact, international city with strong opportunities in hospitality, events, finance, retail, technology and professional services. Although commonly described as an island destination, it includes Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, plus smaller outlying islands. The culture blends Cantonese traditions, Chinese festivals and global influences. Residents enjoy excellent public transport, diverse food, hiking trails, beaches and a fast-paced urban lifestyle. English is widely used in business, while Cantonese is valuable for customer-facing roles and Mandarin is increasingly useful. Most foreign professionals require an employment visa sponsored by their employer, usually under the General Employment Policy; applicants need a confirmed job, relevant qualifications or experience and proof of a genuine vacancy. Housing can be expensive, so relocation planning should include rent, deposits, transport and healthcare. New arrivals should also check tax, insurance and visa conditions before moving.
