Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in hotels, restaurants, tourism, retail, finance, technology and international business. Hospitality professionals can find work in luxury hotels, serviced residences, resorts and event venues, particularly in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and Lantau. The culture blends Cantonese traditions with global influences; people value efficiency, courtesy, hard work and professional presentation. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, dense urban neighbourhoods, hiking trails, beaches and a highly varied food scene. Rent can be expensive, especially close to Central, so many workers choose Kowloon or the New Territories and commute by MTR. Overseas employees generally need an employer-sponsored employment visa, usually requiring a confirmed job offer and proof that their qualifications and experience match the position. A Hong Kong Identity Card is issued after approval. Applicants should confirm current immigration, tax and accommodation rules before relocating.
