Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotel revenue management, front office, sales, food and beverage, culinary operations, wellness and resort management. Popular island destinations include Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang and parts of Sabah, while Kuala Lumpur remains the main corporate and training hub. The culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian and Indigenous influences, and English is widely used in tourism workplaces. Island life can be relaxed and scenic, although transport, healthcare and shopping may be more limited than in major cities. Living costs vary, with resort areas often charging more for accommodation and imported goods. Foreign nationals generally need an employer-sponsored employment pass before starting work; the employer normally handles the application and approval process. Candidates should confirm eligibility, salary, housing, insurance, tax and relocation support directly with Shangri-La before accepting an offer.
