Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, modern island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, aviation, finance, technology, healthcare and logistics. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, orderly and respectful, with excellent public transport, reliable infrastructure and a busy dining and shopping scene. Lifestyle costs can be high, especially rent, although public housing, buses and trains make daily travel practical. Foreign employees usually need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit, depending on qualifications, salary and sector; short-term contract workers must confirm the appropriate pass before starting work. Relocating applicants should budget for accommodation, deposits, transport and medical coverage, and check employment terms carefully. Singapore has a tropical climate, so light clothing and comfort with heat and humidity are useful.
