Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city with strong employment opportunities in hospitality, engineering, facilities management, technology, finance, healthcare and logistics. Its culture is multicultural, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil; respect for punctuality, service standards and workplace professionalism is important. Lifestyle options include excellent public transport, diverse food centres, shopping, parks and easy access to beaches and regional travel. Living costs, especially rent, can be high, so employer accommodation or a housing allowance is valuable. Foreign employees generally need an approved work pass before starting employment. The Employment Pass is commonly used for eligible professional roles, while the S Pass or Work Permit may apply depending on qualifications, salary, occupation and employer quota. The employer normally submits the application. Candidates should confirm pass eligibility, medical requirements, contract terms and relocation costs before accepting an offer.
