Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly developed island city-state with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, aviation, food and beverage, finance, technology and healthcare. The culture is multicultural, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. Life is safe, efficient and convenient, with excellent public transport, modern healthcare, varied dining and abundant shopping and entertainment. Housing and daily expenses can be high, especially near central areas, so employer accommodation or housing allowances are valuable. Foreign professionals generally need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass, subject to current salary and eligibility rules. Employers normally arrange the application. New arrivals should prepare certified documents, medical checks where required and funds for an initial rental deposit. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain.
