Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact city-state and island with strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, technology, healthcare, logistics, education and professional services. Its culture is multicultural, with English widely used alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. The lifestyle is safe, efficient and modern, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, parks and international communities. Living costs, especially rent, are high, so employees should compare accommodation options and benefits carefully. Foreign professionals generally require a work pass arranged by an employer; eligibility depends on qualifications, salary, experience and current Ministry of Manpower requirements. Common options include the Employment Pass and S Pass, while employers usually handle the application process. New arrivals should arrange suitable housing, health insurance, banking and tax registration, and check employment terms carefully. Singapore’s tropical climate is hot and humid year-round, with frequent rain, making breathable clothing and a practical commute important.
