Destination Guide

Hong Kong is a compact international city and territory made up of Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories, with many outlying islands. It offers strong opportunities in hospitality, finance, tourism, retail, technology, logistics and professional services. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in business and hotels. Life is fast-paced, highly connected and generally safe, with excellent public transport, diverse food, hiking trails and vibrant cultural districts. Rent can be expensive, especially in central areas, so many newcomers choose locations near MTR lines outside the main business districts. Overseas professionals normally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer; eligibility depends on qualifications, experience, salary and proof that the role cannot readily be filled locally. Applicants should secure a written offer and confirm medical, insurance, housing and relocation benefits before moving.
