Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong employment opportunities in hospitality, tourism, retail, finance, technology and professional services. Its hotel industry is international and can provide career progression for candidates with service, housekeeping or laundry experience. Cantonese is widely spoken, while English is common in hotels and business settings. The lifestyle is fast-paced, safe and convenient, with excellent public transport, diverse food, shopping, hiking and waterfront areas. Accommodation can be expensive, so applicants should compare staff housing, allowances and commuting costs before relocating. Most overseas employees need an employment visa sponsored by their employer and must meet immigration requirements; working before approval is not permitted. Employers usually assist with visa documentation. Hong Kong has a subtropical climate, crowded urban districts and limited living space, but nearby islands, beaches and country parks offer opportunities to relax. New arrivals should arrange a valid passport, employment contract, proof of qualifications and sufficient funds for the initial transition.
