Destination Guide

Malaysia offers opportunities in hotels, resorts, restaurants, tourism, retail, logistics, finance, technology, and shared services. Island and coastal destinations such as Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, and parts of Sabah and Sarawak provide strong hospitality employment, while Kuala Lumpur has the broadest corporate market. Malaysian culture is multicultural, with Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences; English is widely used in business and tourism. Lifestyle costs vary, with Kuala Lumpur generally more expensive than regional towns and resort islands. Public transport is strongest in major cities, while island living may require a car or motorbike. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Pass, and the company must meet immigration requirements before work begins. Candidates should confirm visa eligibility, accommodation, medical coverage, taxation, and relocation support directly with Shangri-La.
