Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city with strong opportunities in hospitality, tourism, food and beverage, retail, finance, technology and healthcare. English is widely used at work, while Mandarin, Malay and Tamil are also official languages. The culture is multicultural, orderly and generally respectful, with excellent public transport, reliable services, safe neighbourhoods and a busy dining scene. Hotels are concentrated around areas such as Orchard Road, Marina Bay, Sentosa and the airport, and employees commonly commute by MRT or bus. Living costs, especially rent, are high; shared accommodation is often the practical choice for newcomers. Foreign employees need an employer-sponsored work pass, commonly an Employment Pass, S Pass or Work Permit depending on qualifications, salary and occupation. The employer normally submits the application to Singapore's Ministry of Manpower. Candidates should confirm salary, service charge, accommodation, medical benefits and relocation support before accepting an offer.
