Company Info

Shangri-La Group is an international luxury hospitality company headquartered in Hong Kong, operating hotels, resorts, residences, and related businesses across Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa, and North America. Its properties are known for warm Asian hospitality, high service standards, extensive dining options, and premium leisure facilities. In Malaysia, Shangri-La operates established city and resort properties, serving business travellers, families, conference guests, and international holidaymakers. The group places strong emphasis on guest satisfaction, employee development, teamwork, cultural awareness, and responsible business practices. Food and beverage leadership roles typically involve working in restaurants, bars, banquets, room service, or resort dining outlets, with opportunities to progress into senior hotel operations. Benefits may include staff meals, uniforms, training, service charge, accommodation at selected resorts, and employee rates, although the package varies by property and employment contract.

Destination Guide

Malaysia offers varied opportunities for hospitality professionals in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, and resort islands such as Tioman and Perhentian. Hotel and food-and-beverage jobs are strongest in major cities and tourist destinations, with demand rising during holiday seasons. Malaysian culture blends Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Indigenous influences, creating a welcoming but diverse workplace. Island living provides beaches, water activities, fresh seafood, and a slower pace, though transport, healthcare, shopping, and housing can be more limited than on the mainland. Langkawi is especially popular with international resort workers and has an established tourism economy. Foreign employees generally need an employment pass or other employer-sponsored permission before starting work; the hiring company normally manages the application. Check current immigration rules, contract terms, accommodation, insurance, and service-charge policies before relocating. English is widely used in hotels, while learning basic Malay helps with everyday life.
