Destination Guide

Maldives employment is concentrated in luxury resorts, hotels, restaurants, diving, watersports, marine conservation, engineering, housekeeping, finance, and guest services. Resort islands offer a structured lifestyle with staff accommodation, meals, uniforms, recreation areas, and scheduled transport, but they can feel isolated from local communities. Maldivian culture is strongly influenced by Islam, so modest dress and respect for local customs are important, especially when visiting inhabited islands. Alcohol is generally restricted to licensed resorts. Foreign employees normally need an employer-sponsored Employment Approval and work visa; the employer usually arranges immigration processing, medical checks, and related documentation. Confirm contract terms, benefits, flights, insurance, and visa responsibility before relocating. The climate is warm and humid year-round, with wetter monsoon months. Malé and larger local islands provide more shops and services, while remote resort islands offer peaceful surroundings, water activities, and limited personal space.
