Destination Guide

Hong Kong offers strong opportunities in banking, asset management, insurance, technology, logistics, professional services and international trade. The culture blends Cantonese and Chinese traditions with global influences, and English is widely used in business. Life is energetic and convenient, with excellent public transport, dense urban neighbourhoods, diverse restaurants, beaches and hiking trails. Housing is expensive, particularly on Hong Kong Island and in central areas, so many professionals consider Kowloon or the New Territories. Foreign employees normally need an employment visa sponsored by their employer, usually under the General Employment Policy; applicants typically need a confirmed job, relevant qualifications or experience and proof that the role cannot readily be filled locally. Dependants may generally apply for dependant visas and work rights. Before relocating, budget carefully for rent, healthcare, schooling and deposits, and check current immigration requirements with Hong Kong authorities.
