Destination Guide

Singapore is a compact, highly connected island city with strong opportunities in banking, technology, finance, logistics, healthcare, professional services and regional headquarters. English is widely used at work, alongside Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. The culture is multicultural, efficient and generally business-oriented, with excellent public transport, reliable infrastructure, diverse food and safe neighbourhoods. Lifestyle options include hawker centres, shopping districts, parks, beaches and a lively arts and entertainment scene. Housing ranges from shared apartments and public flats to private condominiums, although rents can be high. Foreign professionals usually need an employer-sponsored work pass, such as an Employment Pass or S Pass; eligibility depends on salary, qualifications and Ministry of Manpower requirements. New arrivals should arrange accommodation, banking, healthcare coverage and tax registration. Singapore's central location also makes it convenient for travel around Southeast Asia.
