Malaysia offers opportunities in pharmaceuticals, shared services, procurement, manufacturing, technology, finance and healthcare, especially around Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Penang and Johor. Although Malaysia is not one island, it includes the Malay Peninsula and Malaysian Borneo, with popular island destinations such as Langkawi, Penang, Tioman, Redang and parts of Sabah and Sarawak. The culture is multicultural, combining Malay, Chinese, Indian and indigenous influences, with English commonly used in business. Lifestyle costs are moderate by regional standards, public transport is strongest in major cities, and food and leisure options are diverse. Foreign employees normally need employer-sponsored work authorization, commonly an Employment Pass, before starting work. Relocation usually involves securing a valid offer, passport, qualifications, medical or immigration documents and local accommodation. Specialist roles may require additional approvals.
