Destination Guide

Indonesia offers opportunities in banking, technology, shared services, tourism, manufacturing, logistics, and digital businesses. Jakarta, on Java, is the main center for finance and corporate careers and provides extensive transport, healthcare, shopping, and international services, although traffic and living costs can be high. Bali offers a more relaxed lifestyle and strong tourism, hospitality, and creative-sector employment. Batam has opportunities linked to manufacturing, technology, and Singapore-facing business, while Surabaya is an important commercial and industrial hub. Indonesian culture values politeness, community, family, and respectful communication; local customs and religious practices should be observed. Living costs vary widely by island and city, with Jakarta and Bali generally more expensive. Foreign nationals normally need an Indonesian employer to sponsor the appropriate work authorization, including a work visa and KITAS. Tourist entry does not permit employment. Candidates should confirm visa, tax, health insurance, and relocation arrangements with UOB before moving.
