Colombo and nearby industrial areas provide the widest range of employment, while regional cities offer opportunities in manufacturing, tourism, agriculture, and logistics. The country has a diverse culture influenced by Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial traditions, with many religious festivals and strong family and community values. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in many Western countries, although housing and imported goods can be expensive in Colombo. Public transport is affordable, while private transport and ride-hailing are widely available.
