Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel and manufacturing, information technology, tourism, finance, logistics, engineering, healthcare, and education. Colombo is the main commercial center, while cities such as Kandy, Galle, Katunayake, and Kurunegala also provide employment. The culture is diverse and welcoming, shaped by Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial influences. English is widely used in business, although Sinhala and Tamil are the official languages. Living costs are generally lower than in many international destinations, with Colombo being the most expensive area. Public transport is affordable, but traffic can be heavy. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment visa or residence authorization arranged with employer support; tourist visas do not permit employment. Prospective employees should confirm current visa rules, accommodation, healthcare, taxation, and relocation assistance before moving.
