Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel and manufacturing, information technology, engineering, tourism, finance, logistics, healthcare, and business services. Colombo and nearby industrial zones provide the broadest range of professional roles, while Kandy, Galle, Kurunegala, and other regional centres also have growing industries. The country has a multicultural society shaped by Sinhalese, Tamil, Muslim, and colonial influences; English is widely used in business, alongside Sinhala and Tamil. Lifestyle costs are generally lower than in many Western countries, although Colombo housing and imported goods can be expensive. The island is known for beaches, mountains, wildlife, historic cities, and varied cuisine. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment visa or residence approval arranged with employer support; tourist status does not permit employment. Interns should confirm sponsorship, accommodation, insurance, transport, and local registration requirements before relocating.
