Destination Guide

Sri Lanka offers opportunities in apparel manufacturing, engineering, IT, tourism, logistics, finance, healthcare, and renewable energy. Colombo and nearby industrial zones have the largest concentration of corporate and factory roles, while Kandy, Galle, and other regional centres offer additional employment and lifestyle options. The island is known for welcoming communities, Buddhist and Hindu traditions, colonial heritage, varied cuisine, and festivals such as Sinhala and Tamil New Year. Living costs are generally lower than in many international business hubs, although Colombo accommodation can be relatively expensive. Public transport is affordable, while traffic can be heavy. Foreign nationals normally need an appropriate employment or residence visa sponsored or supported by an employer; tourist status does not permit regular employment. Requirements vary by nationality and role, so applicants should confirm current rules with Sri Lankan immigration and the employer. English is widely used in business, with Sinhala and Tamil also important locally.
